Oven baked oats

A creative and delicious yet easy way of preparing nursing oats.

Oats are a good choice for breakfast. This grain is naturals gluten free, high in protein and offers complex carbohydrates. Oatmeal is one of the world’s most popular breakfasts and in this recipe Galit is showing you a different way to prepare it; baking in the oven instead of cooking on the stove. You can easily prepare it the night before and reheat in the morning.

Ingredients

2 cups gluten free rolled oats
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups unsweetened almond milk
3 tbsp maple syrup
2 cooking apples, chopped
1/2 a cup pecans or walnuts
Some coconut oil for greasing

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°c, grease an oven dish (about 20x20cm) with some coconut oil and set aside.
  2. Mix all the ingredients, apart from the apples and nuts, in a large bowl. 
  3. Pour into the prepared oven dish and smooth, scatter the cut apples and press a little into the batter. Scatter the nuts evenly.
  4. Bake in the pre-heated oven for about 30-35 minutes till the top is nicely golden brown and the bake is firm and springy to touch.
