BIG NEWS: New 2025 Blood Pressure Guidelines Highlight Transcendental Meditation
The American Heart Association (AHA), American College of Cardiology (ACC), and American Medical Association (AMA) have officially released their 2025 guidelines for the treatment of high blood pressure (HBP) in adults.
For the first time in 50 years, national medical guidelines recommend Transcendental Meditation (TM) as an evidence-based lifestyle intervention to reduce blood pressure and lower the risk of cardiovascular events and mortality.
Why This Matters
The joint committee reviewed decades of research and concluded that TM has the strongest and most consistent scientific evidence among all stress-reducing techniques for treating hypertension.
Other approaches, such as yoga and device-guided breathing, were included but with lower levels of supporting evidence.
A Landmark Policy Shift
This announcement goes beyond the AHA’s 2012 scientific statement on meditation, which was mainly a review of available literature. The 2025 release represents an official national policy guideline for healthcare providers, giving TM an authoritative place in hypertension management strategies.
Key Takeaway
Transcendental Meditation is now recognized as a powerful, science-backed tool to fight high blood pressure—a condition affecting millions worldwide. This breakthrough could transform prevention and treatment approaches, helping reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease.
